Places to go in Isparta

 

LIMENIA ISLAND AND ROCK TOMBS

Limenia is an island in Lake Hoyran, 24 km from Yalvaç. It has fortifications all around as well as a temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis. Tombs are hewn into the rock walls overlooking Lake Hoyran.

MEN SANCTUARY

In the Gemen forest, 5 km away from Yalvaç, stands the temple dedicated to the moongod called Men. This sanctuary dates from Hellenistic times and there are also Roman and Byzantine buildings.

 

RUINS OF ADADA

The town of Adada was founded in Hellenistic times and lies 89 km from Isparta. Here are still the remains of glorious temples, theatres, government offices, a church etc. You can see the old King Road which ran via Antiocheia to Perge. St.Paul used this road when he passed through, going to Antioch in Pisidia from Perge.

 

EGIRDIR CASTLE

Built by Lydians in the years 600 through 400 before Christ, the castle saw later restorations by Seljuks and Hamitogullari. The outer walls were put up against attacks mounted from the lake or the mountains. Egirdir Castle makes an excellent vantage point to look out over the town.

 

MEDRESE OF ERTOKUŞ (ATABEY)

In the center of the town of Atabey is an islamic seminary of olden days, constructed from stones and bricks of various civilizations. It was built in 1224 at the order of Mubariziddin Ertokuş.

 

MEDRESE OF DÜNDAR BEY (EĞİRDİR)

It”s located at the centre of the town and it was built in 1301 by Hamidoğlu Dündar Bey. Portal gate adorned fine stone works. Today, this building used as a bazaar.

ERTOKUŞ CARAVANSERAI (GELENDOST)

This caravanserai is on the Isparta-Konya highway close to Gelendost. Ertokuş Caravanserai is from Seljuks period.

 

AYA BANIYA (ISPARTA)

This church is at the Turan district of Isparta and built in 1750. It’s orthodox church. It’s square shaped, there are 3 naves and has an apsis. There are entrances northwest and east. Baroc style wooden materials of the church kept in Isparta Museum.

 

AYA STEFANOS CHURCH (EĞİRDİR)

It’s located in Yeşilada quarter of Eğirdir. It’s an orthodox church.

 

AYA YORGI CHURCH (ISPARTA)

This church is at the Doğancı district of Isparta and built in 1858. Inscription of the main gate is now in Isparta museum. It’s orthodox church. Building forwarded east-west direction, and has 3 naves. There are entrances west, north and south.



İPLİKCİ MOSQUE (HACI ABDİ MOSQUE) ISPARTA

It was built by one of the rich Ispartıan Hacı Abdi Ağa in 1554. It was enlarged Premier Halil hamit Pascha in 1781

 

KAVAKLI MOSQUE (ISPARTA)

It was built by Governor of Isparta with the help of Abdi pascha in 1782. This mosgue has famous floral decorated Kütahya tiles.


Nice Valley near Isparta

KUTLUBEY (GRAND) MOSQUE ISPARTA .

It was built by Isparta Governor Kutlubey during the reign of First Sultan Murat. There were restorations and additions throughout centuries for this reason original building changed a lot. It was built in 1488.

 

DEVLETHAN MOSQUE (YALVAÇ)

It was built by Hamitoğulları in the 14. Century at the center of Yalvaç. This mosque built with stone brought from Psidian Antıocheia.



DAVRAS MOUNTAIN WINTER SPORTS CENTER

The Davras Ski Center is located between three crystal clear lakes. Whilst skiing you’ll be astounded by the scenery of Lake Egirdir. Yes, Davras is in the middle of the “Golden Triangle” of lakes. An ideal place for both amateur and professional skiers, Davras Ski Center offers a most modern chairlift, carrying up to a thousand people per hour over a length of 1211 meters. The possibilities include Nordic and Alpine skiing, cross-country, snowboarding, mountaineering, botanic exploration and trekking. The site is 26 km from the city of Isparta, 154 km from Antalya and 58 km from Süleyman Demirel International Airport.

PINARGÖZÜ CAVE

Pınargözü cave is 11 km from Yenişarbademli and there is Çaydere forest with rich flora and fauna outside the cave. The cave is 12 000 meter and one of the longest in the world, mostly visited by cave lovers and resarchers.

Isparta has very beautiful plateus and a lot of nomads during the summer comes from Antalya to get cool mountain breeze. Anamas, Tota plateus are very famous.

 

AYAZMA PICNIC AREA (ISPARTA)

This picnic area very close to centrum and located in Halıkent district of Isparta with cold water , green space and century old chessnut trees .

 

KİRAZLIDERE

Kirazlıdere is on the Hisartepe hills where you can look all over Isparta There are ranches around it and a restaurant which is ideal for dinner during the hot summer evening.


Zindan Cave

CAVE OF ZINDAN:

One kilometer from the town of Aksu is the 760 meter long Cave of Zindan.There is a Eurymedon temple at the entrance of the cave and a Roman bridge over the river Köprüçay. An Eurymedon statue has been removed to the museum in Isparta. The cave has lots of stalactites and stalagmites.
