HANDCRAFTS AND TAŞPINAR CARPET
In Anatolia, carpet woving is an original art that depends on a rooted history and carries the traditions from the past to recent days.
It is not possible to consider the historical development of making carpets and Turkish history separately. The sympathy of Turks towards the carpets has started in the Central Asia and it continues in many places in Anatolia today. One of these places is Aksaray, Taşpınar.
One of the qualifications that Taşpınar carpet has protected till today is that, the strings of “weft- cotton sheeting and knot” are completely woolen. In general, natural paints are used in coloring the strings.
Taşpınar carpets are woven in types called: Base, head, double somya (a kind of sofa), pillow, mattress, prayer rug, saddle- bag and saddle cover. Recently, mostly pillow and the double carpets called the side carpet are woven.
